in the distance,
the rumble of thunder;
I hear the silent swish
of a dark cloud,
pregnant with rain β
it floats toward me;
I hear the first drop
leave its old home β
it sings through the sky,
fall with a plop
onto the empty road;
I hear the dust rise,
ah! petrichor β
it steadily covers me,
and I smile.
I open my eyes,
and I feel refreshed;
in the distance,
the rumble of thunder
and I wonder
when it will rainβ¦
again.

simple, yet beautiful description of how it feels when it rains π
Thanks and glad you liked it, Mahati Ramya π
Lovely play of words on the buildup to the much-awaited downpour on the parched ground. The sounds of thunder are far too common than the splash of rain in Bangalore these days. The few occasional spells aren’t enough. A good downpour is what we need.

Yeah. The lead up to the rain is sometimes as beautiful, at least to the imagination I suppose. π Thanks Esha. Yeah, Bangalore needs more than a splash of rain for sure!
Ah, the first drop of rain! Beautiful poem, V! Thanks for joining the blog hop again. Hope you have fun.

What lovely imagery Leo – the drop leaving the sky and falling down to the ground. And petrichor almost rising up to meet it. Lovely.

The rain does fall with a plop .Getting wet in the rain when you ddont have to go anywhere is the most fun ever!
Yeah. Getting drenched is fun π Though nowadays, there tends to be a bit of worry with that. I love the soothing feeling of rain on my skin though. Thanks, Amrita.
What a beautiful one. I also love how rain builds up. The dark clouds, the birds heading home and people finding shelter. Good one, Vinay!
So glad you joined us on #WordsMatter this month.

Perfect description of the Bangalore rain. Dark skies, rumbling thunder and thick rain drops that fall and tease. Beautifully written.
Thank you, Rachna π
Petrichor does cover heart and soul, leaving us to want it more only to know that it would happen only after a long break of dry spell.
Loved this short and sweet verse.
Thanks, Anagha π
Wonderful description of typical Bangalore rain, where you can enjoy all the smells and light and sound effects of the rain, without getting soaked.
Thank you, Apeksha! π
