We walked, you and I,
The sunset far away,
My laughter, your joy,
So long it had to stay.
On the roof, we stood,
The sunset far away,
My hand in your own,
Teaching me to play.
Wind beneath its wings,
The black kite swayed,
Rose toward the clouds,
The sunset far away.
You taught me to fly,
Never led me astray,
Told me to run toward,
That sunset far away.
With the kite, without,
In greens, whites, grays,
I’ve soared in the sky,
The sunset far away.
But a lot has changed,
For I’m still here today,
And you have risen near
That sunset far away.

I really enjoyed the repetition of the phrase ‘the sunset far away’. The poem has a wistful and sad tone to it. It’s quite beautiful!
(Sanch @ Sanch Writes recently posted… The Curse of Nostalgia)
You got the tone spot on, Babby. That’s the mood. Glad you enjoyed the repetition of phrase and that you felt the verse to be beautiful. 🙂
So beautiful. Have a feel of nostalgia.
Sadness and happy memories mixed. Love the words…
Thanks, Fathy! Glad you could feel the nostalgia too. Thanks.
