2018 – A Look Back…

Long time no see!

The muse has been silent, and I don’t know where to turn to find inspiration. Just tired of late. Still two thirds of December left for the year to end, and I don’t know if there’s more blogging on the horizon.

I look at the goals I set for a consistent 2018.

Read 50+ books and not reduce this target

I think this has been one good thing about 2018. I read over 125 books. Around halfway through the year, I stopped worrying about reviewing each book I read, and just focused on reading. That helped a lot.

To write regularly and be happy with what I write

For the first time since I started blogging regularly, I won’t have written 100 posts in a year. That’s slightly disappointing. But yes, I managed to write a few short stories for my office magazine, completed the A to Z Challenge in April, started a weekly poetry prompt with one of my Tribe buddies Reema and wrote some wonderful poetry I was happy with… So I’d say this target was met!

Meet more blogging friends

I definitely did! I met a couple of bloggers who are based out of India when they came over to the country, I met a friend I made via my Write Tribe group, met a blogger I’ve known for ages and who I’ve come to consider like an elder sister… all of them for the first time! I also met some friends who I meet often and who have become like family to me! Lots of good memories!

Healthy 2018

To be frank, I’m disappointed with myself regarding my health this year. While I’ve not been taken ill or anything, I wanted to lose more weight than I did this year. I might even have gained a few kilos. I wanted to be more regular with my walks, but very inconsistent. Hoping 2019 sees this improve.

How has 2018 treated you? Happy with what you wanted to do in the year and what you accomplished?

Poetry & writing are to me, a breath of fresh air in a life that is sometimes covered by the smoke of sorrow or self doubt. They also become the sweets I share to celebrate when life offers me a reason to. But most of all, they are to me, my life. For each word I write is a piece of my heart, a thought that just had to find its way into the world.

  1. Umm, I’d say you’ve had a rather productive year V! 125 books…OMG! That is mind-blowing!! I was so happy to meet you in Blore this year V. Blore sure has a lot of lovely bloggers so you are lucky, you know! I enjoyed reading the poetry prompts you and Reema put up. A good way to jostle the mind into creativity. Don’t worry about the health bit, I think your weight is alright as it is. You just need to feel energetic that’s all. And boy, you did write a lot of wonderful posts this year, so stop procrastinating! Here’s wishing you a 2019 that has, lots of reading and writing, meeting and greeting, food, fun and moments with people you care about!

  2. That sounds like a pretty good 2018. Hats off to you for being able to read so many books. I agree with you about the fact that once you stop concentrating on reviewing the book and concentrate on actually reading it, you can read faster!
And yes, Wednesday Verses had a wonderful start but needs revival. Hope we will be able to put it back on track and make it even better in 2019.

  3. Vinay lovely .. U managed to read 125??? Wow.. I managed around 52, but then you know how I am, stick to a book at a time. Its always such a pleasure to meet blogging friends. Infact, I am glad I took to blogging cause I have indeed managed to build around me a lovely circle of people. Well, you are part of it, so what if its on Whats app :))

I liked what you have said about writing. Write regularly and be happy with what you write( can I add, write what you like?)… I am hoping you get back to writing more flash fiction, the ones you did for AtoZ, in 2019. Cheers Vinay!!!

    • Rereads aplenty, some assisted by challenges, yes. But 125. 🙂 I am happy with it. I’d have been happy with 52 too though! 😀

I’m glad you’re part of my circle too, Ramya! It’s nice to read your Otherwise too! I hope to write what I like in 2019 too, and be happy with it. * Fingers crossed *

  4. It was a difficult year for me too, V. But you did good, you know? 125 books is amazing! And how I wish I could meet you all again. Hope 2019 will be amazing. Cheers, and thanks for always being there!
