I am a big fan of Rumi’s writing. I have read some of it, and I have many favorite quotes that I have found. One such quote says…
“Life is a balance between holding on and letting go.”
I agree with Rumi. Life throws unexpected obstacles in our way. Things you felt were going right turn upside down in a moment. Friends grow distant without giving any reason. Many such instances have been part and parcel of my life. More often than not, I have held on to those things I’ve valued and refused to believe that they are no longer part of my life.
It’s not easy to let go. I think many would feel the same. But the more you hold on to an illusion of existence, the more tired you become. You stress yourself because it takes a big portion of your thoughts to believe that something that once was but no longer is, remains “is”. With that stress, you don’t have positive energy to focus elsewhere.
I believe it is quite okay to hold on to hope. It is something magical, and much needed in our life. But there must come a time when you realize and accept that it is no longer there. That acceptance doesn’t make you pessimistic, just realistic. And the sooner you let go of such things, the more energy you have to give to your life.
Maybe it is time to let go, and bring some balance back to life. After all, happiness is a choice you can make, not something that is gifted to you or taken away without your consent.
