Eosophobia (#AtoZChallenge)

This is my 9th attempt at the month-long blogging challenge, Blogging from A to Z. I’ve completed it 5 times so far. My theme this year is 7 Sentence Fiction, and the word I’m using for E is Eosophobia.

How beautiful are these stars, glittering like diamonds in the sky? Outside, an owl hoots, awake at last, and giving me company. The roads are silent, the rat race put on pause.

In the street light’s pale yellow light that streams through the clear glass panes of the window, I read Agatha Christie’s Sad Cypress. Only the distant ticking of the grandfather clock breaks the silence inside.

If only the world could stay like this always…

Alas, in a few more hours, the sun will slowly awaken, and the wretched dawn will break the peace I have come to love.

Eosophobia is the fear of dawn/daylight.

Liked this? Maybe you can read some of my earlier posts: Stories | for A to Z 2018.

Poetry & writing are to me, a breath of fresh air in a life that is sometimes covered by the smoke of sorrow or self doubt. They also become the sweets I share to celebrate when life offers me a reason to. But most of all, they are to me, my life. For each word I write is a piece of my heart, a thought that just had to find its way into the world.

  1. I fear the morning hustle bustle of Mumbai . But then in few hours I like the energy of the city also. So I guess I don’t suffer from Eosophobia. Thanks for letting us know at the end what it means too.

  2. What a lovely word. I enjoyed your story, and although I enjoy the deep night as well, I’m a fan of dawn too. I once had a cat name Eos, who was the perfect dawn goddess with her early risings.

  3. this is a nice little quiet moment. I have had these moments many times, but sadly, they don’t last but it’s wonderful to have them all the same.

    have a lovely day.

  4. Hey Vinay. I’m not an owl and look forward to the break of a new day. Thanks for teaching me a new word. I only have to make sure I don’t confuse it with Eosinophils! You are really committed…. I just didn’t want the stress of doing the A to Z this year and am feeling a bit bad about it but honestly I have toooooooo much going on in my life right now. Hope to drop by again and read some more interesting stuff from you this month

    • It’s okay. AtoZ is a bit stressful, and if you aren’t up for it, it’s better that you hadn’t started it. πŸ™‚ Glad to have a reader, always. Thanks, BellyBytes.
