#26 – It’s My Life

When you grow up listening to some bands and artists, their music stays on in our mind. One of the bands I loved and still love listening to is Bon Jovi. Just as with Westlife, I first came across Bon Jovi when my sister and I heard this song on that call-in and request cable channel. I don’t think we understood the lyrics until we had access to the internet and searched for the lyrics properly, but it was the beat of the song that caught our attention. After that, I heard the songs of the album Have a Nice Day, and there were a few songs that became favorites in that too. But this song, It’s My Life, is what continues to define the band for me.

The song’s beat is what my sister and I liked, but as I grew up, the song’s lyrics seemed to appeal to me more. The chorus, especially, made a lot of sense. There are inspirational quotes that say how life shouldn’t be only about taking a breath, it should be about living. That made a lot of sense.

The part of the lyrics I love the most?

Tomorrow’s getting harder
Make no mistake
Luck ain’t even lucky
Gotta make your own breaks

It’s my life,
It’s now or never,
I ain’t gonna live for ever,
I just wanna live while I’m alive
(It’s my life)

And that’s just what I am doing. I’m living each moment, enjoying it the way I want to. Not everyone would agree that what I’m doing is living, but then again, what makes me feel alive is something totally different from what makes them feel alive, no?

Poetry & writing are to me, a breath of fresh air in a life that is sometimes covered by the smoke of sorrow or self doubt. They also become the sweets I share to celebrate when life offers me a reason to. But most of all, they are to me, my life. For each word I write is a piece of my heart, a thought that just had to find its way into the world.
