#17 – Hotel California
Earlier, I had written about a song (November Rain) where the guitar solo was something I loved along with the lyrics. November Rain is good, but there’s a song which opens with a guitar solo, that’s quite memorable for that in particular. In fact, it has been voted the best guitar solo of all time. The song is Hotel California, by the American rock band Eagles.
I love the song a lot because of that opening guitar solo where the band’s three guitarists are have the spotlight on them. It was only when I read up on the song that I knew how varied the interpretations to the lyrics are. When I heard it the first time, I had interpreted it as just someone’s imagination running wild. Maybe that was the case, who knows? Even the guitar solo aside, it continues to be ranked among the best songs of all time.
Lyrics, no matter how varied the interpretations, are important too. When I hear the song, I remember the late Glenn Frey, who played his part not only in that amazing guitar solo, but also in the lyrics. The song has been ever present on my playlist, I think, and I’ve no doubt it’ll continue to remain so.
