#15 – Vennilave Vennilave
Vairamuthu and AR Rahman come together again to give a wonderful musical journey in a movie. I watched the movie on cassette when it released. The part of the movie I liked the most was the songs. Whether it was the prayer song “Anbendra Mazhayile” or the one with the best dance in it, “Mana Madurai, each song in the movie felt wonderful. My favorite song from the movie is this one.
“Vennilave” has the best lyrics of the songs, I feel; and the beat of the song too, so beautiful. The song has been sung wonderfully well by Hariharan and Sadhna Sargam. It’s a song I know by heart.
The part of the lyrics I love the most?
Etthada uyirathil nilavai veythavan yaaru?
Kayyodu sikkamal katrai veythavan yaaru?
It translates to…
Who kept the moon so high out of our reach?
Who made the wind so we cannot catch it?
The whole song is quite romantic, but yet, these two lines reminded me of those naughty questions we used to ask our parents when we were young, and leave them trying to make up answers to them. It’s funny, how lyrics remind us of something totally different, isn’t it?

Though I do not know the lines by heart, I like this song. Just like, not love.

Yes. I like it too, Ishi. There’s not a lot to love in it, but definitely likeable. 🙂
