#14 – The Bare Necessities
Some songs take me back to childhood instantly. They have memories associated with them, like the first time I heard it, or the movie it was from. One of my distant relatives had gifted me an audio cassette of The Jungle Book’s soundtrack when I was in school. It was something my sister and I listened to often. When the movie was remade recently, my friend and I had gone for the movie on the opening weekend. To my dismay, the songs weren’t as prominent in the new movie.
From the soundtrack of the movie The Jungle Book, my favorite song is this one, “The Bare Necessities”. In the movie, Baloo and Mowgli sing it. What I loved then, and what I love even now, is the lyrics. And also the video. Some parts of the video just bring a smile instantly.
The part of the lyrics I love the most?
Don’t spend your time lookin’ around
For something you want that can’t be found
When you find out you can live without it
And go along not thinkin’ about it
I’ll tell you something true
The bare necessities of life will come to you

Yes, Ishi. Bear for Baloo, bare for the listeners, makes sense either way. 🙂 It’s a song that’s loved by many, I’m sure.
