#13 – Naadamaya Ee Lokavella

Few songs stick in my mind because of the music alone. One such song is this one, Naadamaya, which has less lyrics and more of svaras and instruments playing. Songs like these make me admire those who have taken lessons in music and are able to sing like this. I have tried singing along, but the svaras just don’t stick and ends up sounding fake and rashly conjoined.

Dr. Rajkumar’s songs have a way of staying in the listener’s mind long after the song has ended. This one is no different. It pushes me to restart the song and listen to it all over again. When he was awarded the National Award for Best Male Playback Singer in 1992 for this song, the citation was “For his extraordinary rendering of a raga celebrating the all pervasive power of music.” I couldn’t put it any better I guess. Naadamaya, ee lokavella…filled with music, this world… how true that is.

Poetry & writing are to me, a breath of fresh air in a life that is sometimes covered by the smoke of sorrow or self doubt. They also become the sweets I share to celebrate when life offers me a reason to. But most of all, they are to me, my life. For each word I write is a piece of my heart, a thought that just had to find its way into the world.
