#3 – Pogadhe

With music, it happens that I hear a song somewhere at random, and the tune or lyrics just sticks in my mind. It is truer when the song is the first one I hear in the day. The song then continues to play in my head all day. One such occasion was when I was on the way to college. My neighbor and good friend had just loaded his MP3 player with new songs. We were listening together, one bud of the headphones in his ear and one in mine. This was the first song that came that day, and I loved it so much that I took it from him during computer lab.

I love the song for both its lyrics and its tune. Yuvan Shankar Raja has sung it in such a way that the emotions are palpable too. I remember watching the video of the song and feeling that the voice just suited the scene. I’ve not watched the movie though, and wonder what the context of the song was.

The part of the lyrics I love the most?

Azhagana neram, adhai neethaan kuduthaay
Azhiyatha sogham adheyum neethaan kuduthaay

It translates to…

The beautiful times in life, you gifted to me,
Yet the endless pains, that also you gifted to me.

There have been relationships in life where these lines have felt true for me, so I could relate to that back then, and can relate to it now as well. To have someone dear to us forget us without reason is something that’s a little difficult to take, I feel.

Poetry & writing are to me, a breath of fresh air in a life that is sometimes covered by the smoke of sorrow or self doubt. They also become the sweets I share to celebrate when life offers me a reason to. But most of all, they are to me, my life. For each word I write is a piece of my heart, a thought that just had to find its way into the world.
