#2 – Tunturu
Quite recently, I was talking about some songs with a group of friends on WhatsApp. The discussion veered toward romantic songs, and how the lyrics these days aren’t as beautiful as they were when we were growing up. One friend mentioned this song, and I agreed. One of my college friends had had this song in his playlist then, and shared it with me. And I loved it.
KS Chitra is one singer I admire. No matter which language she sings in, her passion for music is evident. Even in this song, that passion can be heard. The vocals, along with the melody and lyrics, just make this song work very beautifully. The friend who mentioned this song in the discussion opined that it fits when one is on the verge of falling in love. I can relate to that.
The part of the lyrics I love the most?
Gaali gaali thampu gaali oora thumba ideyo
Ninna hesara gaali onde nanna usirallideyo
It translates to…
The cool breeze fills the world around
Only the air with your name fills my heart
The rest of song’s lyrics are every bit as beautiful as these two lines but this is what I remember the most. It would be such an exhilarating feeling, I think. To be so in love that the other person’s name fills our heart as much as a cool breeze fills the world. So soothing. Life’s not as simple as that, though.
