#1 – Fireflies
There are some songs that I love more because of the melody instead of the lyrics. Yes, the words of the song do matter, but it’s the tune and the beat that stays in my head long after I’ve finished hearing the song. Owl City’s second album Ocean Eyes has the song Fireflies, which falls into this category. The song is about summer and fireflies and insomnia, and does have some interesting lyrics but the opening section (without lyrics) is what I remember the song for.
I found the song Fireflies purely by luck. My sister, as big a music lover as me, had the song in her playlist, and it came on while she played it on shuffle. I fell in love with the opening section then, and saw the music video on YouTube soon after. The song has been on my playlist since.
The part of the lyrics I love the most?
It’s hard to say that I’d rather stay awake when I’m asleep
Because my dreams are bursting at the seams
For the writer, this is a dilemma of course… a sweet dilemma whether to stay awake and write, or fall asleep and dream. Often, it is our dream we write about, isn’t it?
Everything is never as it seems, indeed.

Do I even have to say that I love this song? I think this song is so much more than it as been given credit for.

You could say it, Jb, not a big deal. 😉
It is much more than it is given credit for, I agree. Not many would understand why people love it so much. 😀
