Changing Earth
the summer blazes like wildfire,
parching the earth, the water,
I feel it burn my skin… so slow,
I feel every bit of my energy go,
dry as the earth beneath my feet.
my eye searches for shadows,
the jungle around has changed,
the green before, so estranged;
the forest, now dead concrete,
dry as the earth beneath my feet.
I search for the breath of fresh air,
my brothers have taken away.

Such a powerful rendition of Mother Earth. No doubt the scenario around us is changing due to lack of proper care and thus neglect. Thank you so much for participating at Prompt Nights Vinay 🙂
Lots of love,
Sanaa

I agree. We’re feeling the consequences of the neglect for sure. Thank you, Sanaa.
This piece cleverly builds a sense of suffocation – and of being let down – maybe that’s a feeling universally felt from the earth to the stars and the creatures inbetween
(Jae Rose recently posted… Ascend)
Kind of, yes. I definitely think the earth would feel let down by the main creature inbetween it and the stars! It’s so heated up these days. Thank you, Jae.
Oh, this is so sad…..”the forest, now dead concrete”….such a dire indictment of our changing earth 🙁
Yes. And also the obssession of man to keep building with concrete instead of giving space for the plants to grow.
Thank you, Conscious Cacophony.
Very thought provoking. Reads as a short sci-fi dystopian future with a very real concern for human destruction of the planet.
(Blooming Psycho recently posted… Remembering His Purple Reign)
Thank you Blooming Psycho. The idea was more toward the concern, than a sci-fi. But the future is looking like a horror sci-fi at times.
Left us gasping too.

Yeah, that was bound to happen, I guess, J Cosmo.
Progress has for sure changed it all… concrete is so harsh on hearts
(Bjorn recently posted… A carpenter apprentice)
Yes, Bjorn. Progress for the sake of progress. We’re taking one step forward, four steps back, sadly. Harsh on hearts, for sure.
I felt so sad reading this, the damage that we do to the earth and continue to do is disturbing, as is the message of your poem,,
I felt sad after writing it too, Ellecee. It is so unusually hot here in my city that I’m struggling to understand why the concrete is taking priority over the greenery. 🙁
At times we may feel a sense of helpless frustration when we feel the changes in our Earth that need not be.
(Gemma Wiseman recently posted… fragments of a prince…)
Yes. Especially at a time when we’re affected by those changes we make to the Earth and the environment around us. Thank you, Gemma.
A timely poem in this month of Earth Day.
Thank you, Kerry.
Ohhhh. I like the surprise that last line brings, the wondering…
(De Jackson(WhimsyGizmo) recently posted… 1985)
Thank you, De.
We call ripped roots and poured concrete progress… We are in a sorry state.
We are. It seems that to build is progress and to grow, isn’t. 🙁 Sorry state of affairs indeed, Susie.
I love the energy, the honesty in your poem.
Thank you very much, Helen.
If there is much future to be had, it is sad to think of how changed for the worse it will be.
I agree. It is sad that the present would have affected the future. Thank you, Barbara.
Sad topic, but nice use of rhyme and repetition.
Thank you, Rosemary.
And so have your forefathers. Not only brothers.
True. But my brothers are the ones who are continuing to uphold that dumb legacy, so I blame them more, Dhivya.
