Angels and Demons

Out of the blue one day, Shalzzz, one of the two tomatoes of Tale of Two Tomatoes pinged and said, “Let’s write something together. anything!”. So we did. Just going back and forth on verses over WhatsApp. And it was quite fun. Of late, she had been paying too much attention to the “zzz” in Shalzzz, I guess. And the poem broke her writer’s block (I hope). And this is what came from writing. Hope you folks enjoy reading it.

Angels and Demons — a collaborative poem

Perched on my head with wicked horns and glowering red eyes
He silently whispers words instinct with loath and pity.
You no longer want to write! You no longer should!
Cloudy thoughts, talent in the soup, a punch on your heart feels hard.
Like a test of true love,
All the while reminding me I’m a goner, a forlorn cause!

The halo glowing, another voice replies,
Don’t listen, my darling, the demon lies,
You want to write, for that you were born,
Nothing will change that, not even your scorn,
All clouds clear, soon yours shall as well,
And your talent shall cast a magical spell,
This test you will pass, believe and write,
And let your doubts be lost in its light.

A scold, a warn
An order, and a harass
Don’t think I can get too far!
I wish I knew, I wish I could tell
But tied and handcuffed, there is no reveal!
In depths of despair, to whip up a line
A laughing stock I shall be, I whine.
I know the danger, I know the price
Yet I still, waver and waffle,
Unmoved, unchanged, chained!

Words are but words, don’t worry too much,
Accept them, and then forget them as such,
Believe that you can, far you shall go,
You might be still, but this you do know,
Your heart is unchained, free all the time,
It flies to worlds that are untouched by rhyme,
Despair or joy, both are at your feet,
Forget about danger, just go out and meet,
Laugh out first, then the world laughs along too,
Unmoved, unchanged, but beautifully you.

I blink back my tears
That well up in my eyes
I let out a silent prayer
To up above the skies
Thanks for being there, even when not asked to
You know me too well, to know when I’m blue.
I find a quiet spot and sit alone
Until strength is found, to carry on some more
I fear my foe, I yield my all
‘Bring it on!’ you say, else it’s a close call.
I will listen to thy whispers
To what thou hast to say
Oh dear friend, you simply made my day!
Merry and gay I pour out my heart
I will keep writing no matter what.

The demon is sly, but his words I shun,
For I know writing needs to be done,
The belief is back, the words are too,
Now with this start, I must continue.
No block shall chain my words again,
This desire to write shan’t go in vain,
No shade of blue will stay too long,
To silence what is my colorful song;
So the tale goes on, and I shall vow,
The happily ever after has begun now.

Poetry & writing are to me, a breath of fresh air in a life that is sometimes covered by the smoke of sorrow or self doubt. They also become the sweets I share to celebrate when life offers me a reason to. But most of all, they are to me, my life. For each word I write is a piece of my heart, a thought that just had to find its way into the world.

  2. Amazing! You are Mr. Writers-Block-Remover 🙂

Loved the poem too. Didn’t know collaborative poetry could work! Thanks for the eye-opener!!!

    • Haha 😀 Yeah. It’s nice to write with friends, and happy that it was temporarily, if not permanently removed. 😛

Collaborative poetry does work, but it depends on who it is written with, I guess, Sreedeep. 🙂 Thanks. Glad you loved the poem.

  3. Okay, now, help me write one. It’s been a long time since I scribbled a poem. Too much occupied with so many things. Maybe, I should slowly opt out of the new things I am getting in, and get back to writing 😀

By the way, liked the poem 😀
