100 Days of Happiness – Day 25

It’s easy to find sadness each day, but to find a moment of happiness is difficult. Last year, I couldn’t bring myself to finish the 100 Days of Happiness challenge. This year, I am more determined to finish it — Counting down to 2016 with Happiness!

The Happiness of Writing Poetry with a Friend

100 Days of Happiness – Day 25

Poetry is a lot of things. It is freedom to express, and with that freedom comes peace of mind, and with peace of mind comes happiness. The blog is titled I Rhyme Without Reason because my love for poetry is unconditional. I’ve tried to rename it before too, but nothing else has stuck, or felt as right.

Writing with friends is wonderful. I think the first time I wrote a poem by collaborating with another poet is seven years back, when I wrote with my virtual sister Callie. That ended up with a blog of our collaborative poetry. Since then, I’ve rhymed with many friends, and it is a wonderful thing too, because not only do I write, but I see them, who I love to read, write as well.

Happiness is… writing a collaborative poem with a friend. It was out of the blue that Shalini, the Tomato Girl pinged and told, “Let’s write together someday… anyday.” And we started on this idea. She’s been trapped by writer’s block, and feeling uninspired. So I suggested negative and positive alternating verses. And the poem turned out to be quite nice. I hope that block never holds her hostage again.

Poetry & writing are to me, a breath of fresh air in a life that is sometimes covered by the smoke of sorrow or self doubt. They also become the sweets I share to celebrate when life offers me a reason to. But most of all, they are to me, my life. For each word I write is a piece of my heart, a thought that just had to find its way into the world.
