Investing in Education

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

Nelson Mandela’s words are quite true. Teaching something is very satisfying. Not only do you share what you know to someone, but sometimes, you are surprised by how the student takes it and uses it too. You learn too; you learn the values of being patient and being compassionate as well. And you get the satisfaction of knowing that what you have shared with them helps them in some way.

Money, of course, is paramount these days to anything, and education is not an exception there either. Funds are necessary for the running of any school, and not all schools get it equally or even on time for that matter. The schools in cities do well enough, but the rural areas of India don’t in comparison. Recently, through the Blog-a-Rhythm blog, I came to know of the rural pre-school of Aham Bhumika which is facing a shortage of funds. And I thought, I can’t help every child to get an education, but here’s a chance to help out a few.

The rural pre-school, situated at Borda (about 17kms from Bhopal), has been looking for corporate funding for long, and still continues to do so, and survives with the support of generous individuals. At the moment, they have 40 wards from the underprivileged category at the preschool, whose parents work at construction sites, and are illiterate. They require INR 14000 each month to meet their expenditure. Maybe you can be one to support a part of that expenditure.

This is how you can contribute to this cause:

I end this post remembering the words of Maimonides who said,

“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”

Maybe you can’t be the one who teaches, but you can try and support the ones who do.

Poetry & writing are to me, a breath of fresh air in a life that is sometimes covered by the smoke of sorrow or self doubt. They also become the sweets I share to celebrate when life offers me a reason to. But most of all, they are to me, my life. For each word I write is a piece of my heart, a thought that just had to find its way into the world.

  1. Glad to see you promoting such noble causes, Vinay. I understand very well the plight of the underprivileged children. Their eyes yearn for learning but the dearth of funds leave them disappointed. I will see what I can do for these kids. Thanks for letting the world know about Aham Bhumika!

    • I liked writing on it, and am happy that I could let the world know. Education is important, for sure. 🙂 Do see what you can do to help these kids, Sreedeep. Some good karma might come my way too, then.
