100 Days of Happiness – Day 8

It’s easy to find sadness each day, but to find a moment of happiness is difficult. Last year, I couldn’t bring myself to finish the 100 Days of Happiness challenge. This year, I am more determined to finish it — Counting down to 2016 with Happiness!

The Happiness of Music

100 Days of Happiness – Day 8

Music plays a very important part in my life. No matter what mood I am in, listening to songs makes me feel a lot happier. Music has a lot of memories associated with it as well. Like singing along with my sister to a song that we chose together to play on TV; or playing antakshari with friends on the way back from the college fest.

My selection of music is pretty old. Whereas my friends have all these new songs which are fast paced, rap style and all that, my playlist doesn’t have even one song that has been popular this year. In my playlist are songs that are evergreen, like Roja Jaaneman or Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely. Often, my friends have asked me why I keep listening to them. Honest answer – because I still love them. The bands Westlife and Linkin Park dominate the collection of songs, as they have been since years.

There’s one song, Echo by Jason Walker that my friend Aakriti recommended to me one day when I was feeling low. And that is one that has been in my playlist since. Happiness is playing that song over and over again in a day, and singing along to it as well.

Poetry & writing are to me, a breath of fresh air in a life that is sometimes covered by the smoke of sorrow or self doubt. They also become the sweets I share to celebrate when life offers me a reason to. But most of all, they are to me, my life. For each word I write is a piece of my heart, a thought that just had to find its way into the world.
