Thankful Tuesdays #36 – Home Sweet Home

Written as part of 52 Weeks of Gratitude Challenge which I’m attempting this year.

Your Home

Week 36 – Thankful Tuesdays

Home is where the heart is. I know that saying is clichéd by now, but it is so true. But today, I’m going to thank two homes, both of which mean a lot to me.

The first is my home. I’ve been there for more than a decade now, and it’s my second favorite place in the world (the first favorite is my grandparents’ home, because it has with it, thirteen years’ worth of childhood memories). I have a loving family who cares for me, and who I care for. It has memories too, not all of which are wonderful, but which are still priceless. It’s small but quite warm with that love. It has a bookshelf which I’m proud of, and hope to make it bigger. It has comforts that make it nice, but it’s the love that makes it heaven. I have a neighbor whose little girl adores me and cheers me up each time. And even a neighbor who’s a blogger and shares that crazy book passion. Home is where the heart is and it is with them most of the time.

When it’s not with them, the feeling of home is in the words that I love so much. Words have helped me build my life back from the edge, and with more happiness than I had then. Words have given me refuge when I’ve been abandoned by inspiration. And I hope they continue to flourish. In fact, I’m quite wordless when it comes to expressing how grateful I am to words.

Poetry & writing are to me, a breath of fresh air in a life that is sometimes covered by the smoke of sorrow or self doubt. They also become the sweets I share to celebrate when life offers me a reason to. But most of all, they are to me, my life. For each word I write is a piece of my heart, a thought that just had to find its way into the world.
