5 Things I like about me
Week 10 – Thankful Tuesdays
Introspection is always nice, but I find that it is the hardest thing to do. It’s harder when it is to find things I like about myself. I’m usually my hardest critic and end up looking at the flaws than the favorites. I find I relate easier to quotes, so I’ll try to do it that way.
“Follow your inner moonlight; don’t hide the madness.” – Allan Ginsberg
I’ve never tried to be someone who I’m not. It’s not been acceptable to some, and I’ve lost some of those some sometimes. It has hurt, but I like who I am, I like the madness, and I don’t like people trying to make me to their definition of sane. I’m the one who molds me, and that’s that.
“For every minute you are angry you lose sixty seconds of happiness.” – Ralph Emerson
It’s not possible to be happy every single minute, I know. But I like being happy, and making others forget their sadness. I like my attitude when it comes to that. Some of my friends ask me if I can’t feel their sadness. I do, but if I become sad seeing them sad, how can I cheer them up? So I try my best to bring them 60 seconds of cheer. Once they find it, they can then try to build on that cheer, right?
“The best listeners listen between the lines.” – Nina Malkin
“I have learned that many of us simply ‘see’, we hardly ‘observe’.” – Monish Bhalla
I like that I listen and observe. It may be the smallest things, but sometimes it is the smallest thing that matters. It helps me to help them to a solution if it is needed.
“If you don’t have time to read, you don’t have the time to write. Simple as that.” – Stephen King
I love that I’m trapped in this world of words where I not only write stories but read them too. The love for books has been there in me since childhood. From the Secret Seven series and Nancy Drew to Sherlock Holmes and Harry Potter, from Hassan and Miriam from the pen of Khaled Hosseini, to Scout Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird, I’ve lived in the pages, still live in them and LOVE it. It’s reading such wonderful tales that bring out the writer in me, and for that I’m thankful.
“They laugh at me because I’m different; I laugh at them because they’re all the same.” – Kurt Cobain
I like that I’m different. I have no hesitation in sending to a friend the book that I love, and not what I’m tired of. It matters to me that they don’t get a discard. I never make plans. I just go with the flow and let what happens happen. I know that I can’t control everything. I know I don’t meet everyone’s expectation of me, and that’s fine. If I live to satisfy everyone else but me, then I’ll be living everyone’s life but mine. If they’re hurt by that, then I can’t help it. I cheer for the team I love, and not the team everyone expects me to cheer.
“I’ve reached a point in my life where I find it’s no longer necessary to try to impress anyone. If they like me the way I am, that’s good. If they don’t, it’s their loss.” — AMEN to that, I say!
