Week 7 – Thankful Tuesdays
“A friend is one who knows you, and loves you just the same.” – Elbert Hubbard.
If I’ve to thank just one friend, then the first one I’d thank is you, Sow. I know reading that, you’ll just laugh and say, “Now this is too much, Vinu.” But it’s true. Over the last ten years, our friendship has had its ups and downs, as has our lives, but we’ve stayed best friends through that.
I’m thankful for all the tutoring you gave me in our college days when I was not well; and I couldn’t understand what the lecturer, who was going at a million miles an hour, was telling. If it wasn’t for that, I wouldn’t have fared as well as I did in exams. When the results disheartened me, almost took me past the edge, you held on to our friendship and calmed me. I’m thankful that you still believed in me when others wouldn’t. I’m thankful you make me talk in Kannada to you. It helps me not lose touch with that language. And I’m thankful you make me translate your Kannada poetry, which I still miss, and hope you write again soon.
I’m thankful that you look out for me even today, asking me if I’ve got a better job, or a promotion at work etc. It makes me try more to make that happen. I’m thankful that, even though we don’t talk as much these days, you still haven’t given up on me, and understand that I may be busy. I definitely am not ignoring you, dear friend, and I hope to come meet you and your little bundle of joy very soon. I know you are very happy now, and I pray that you continue to be always.
I don’t know what else to thank you for. Thanking friends for being a friend is not something I like to do. So I’ll stop. I’m glad to be your best friend, and glad that you are mine too.
