… and Three fun months

…and Three fun months

A Trip Down Memory Lane – Jul/Aug/Dec 2014

In July, Bhavya urged me to try the Ultimate Blogging Challenge, and we decided to urge each other on. We wrote on similar themes each day, and it was fun. I wrote another story series, “It’s All In A Name”. We wrote about our memories. We wrote flash fictions. And we wrote about social issues. The story which I remember the most is “Darkness”, one which took a lot out of me. I didn’t know about such a practice before that day

August is memorable because it marked a change. On my birthday, I decided to change from Leo, to Vinay Leo R. Not that it made a big difference. I guess my friends were so used to me being Leo, that they still call me the same. And I love that. I must say, I’ve been tempted afterward to switch back, but not as strongly, because it feels right. Leo is always a part of me. August, though it has my birthday, is usually about others, than me. 2014 August was about two wonderful writers, and two guest posts, one that I wrote and one that was written for my blog. Bhavya had been asking me for a guest post since long, and I wrote her a horror story (one genre that comes rarely from my pen) titled “The Third Stair”. And I asked Jaibala to write a guest post for my birthday. She duly obliged with a simple poem titled “What can I say about dreams?” (Turns out, she could say a lot.)

And rounding off my recollections, December was fun because of the Project 365 challenge. I had volunteered for January, but the four core members & the hosts there; they decided to squeeze me into December itself. I wrote 4 posts for the challenge. When I was given the list of topics, the one that immediately appealed to the descriptive writer in me was one about textures. The texture that most appeals to me is that of paper. So I wrote a fiction on that, titled “The Writer’s Dilemma”. I’m sad that December ended, ending with it the Project 365 challenge. But it still holds memories of writing I knew not I had.

Poetry & writing are to me, a breath of fresh air in a life that is sometimes covered by the smoke of sorrow or self doubt. They also become the sweets I share to celebrate when life offers me a reason to. But most of all, they are to me, my life. For each word I write is a piece of my heart, a thought that just had to find its way into the world.
