That guilty feeling…

I’m guest authoring for Project 365 in December. The prompt that got this story out from my muse was — “Share a time when you were overcome with guilt. What were the circumstances? How did you overcome you guilt?”

That guilty feeling…

When have I felt guilty?
Oh quite a few times,
I’ve wondered why life
Gives lemons and limes.

Guilty of lesser grades,
Felt by all their taunts,
It returns sometimes,
Like a ghost that haunts.

But I tell myself this,
I know I gave it my all,
It was just bad luck,
That led to my bad fall.

Guilty of hitting out,
At someone who cared,
In a moment that irked,
That we both had shared.

But relented I did later,
I was but four after all,
Granny understood it,
Her heart wasn’t small.

Guilty of drawing blood,
From a real good friend,
Running for injured me,
Few overs from the end.

But I took her to home,
Placed ice on her nose,
Treated her to candies,
And we forgot the woes.

Some are suppressed,
Nothing can be done,
Some I’ve apologized,
I’d been the wrong one.

Guilt I have felt a lot,
Many a time like so,
But I’ve made up for it,
In the best way I know.

Feeling guilt forever,
It’s not worth the pain,
It’s best to move on,
And not feel it again.

Author’s note: This is my last guest post for Project 365. I’m glad to have written for it, and been a part of it. Thanks to the core team there (Sakshi, Sid, Jairam and Rekha) for their support and a fun month of posts!

Poetry & writing are to me, a breath of fresh air in a life that is sometimes covered by the smoke of sorrow or self doubt. They also become the sweets I share to celebrate when life offers me a reason to. But most of all, they are to me, my life. For each word I write is a piece of my heart, a thought that just had to find its way into the world.

  1. Guilt bogs us down and stops us from taking control of our future.. its a bad feeling and one that all of us overcome at some point in time…

that was powerful. I had missed your poetry!
