silence…
how I miss its song,
in the clatter
of keys and buttons,
of taps and clicks
heard as I write now.
missing…
the coo of pigeons
that nest nearby,
that pitter patter
of cool rain drops
kissing the window,
and the music
of my own thoughts.
searching
those very things
that I miss right now,
I leave the sounds
of what is routine,
close my eyes,
lose myself to silence;
and I hear
the calmness around.
and I find
a piece of my heart,
that till then
I knew not I had.

Sometimes disconnecting is what keeps us going and helps us reconnecting with ourselves.

Absolutely , Jb ๐ That moment of peace helps to find us and the next piece.

I know that feeling well.

I love this. To me it perfectly describes the relationship between the silence that allows the writer to find the words inside them (from those little sounds they hear in the silence in this case) and the noise of creation that follows, whether from the inspiration in their head or the noise of the keys on the typewrite/keyboard or the scratch of the pen on paper. This is an interesting dichotomy. For a writer you cannot have the silence without the noise. Fabulous piece.

Thanks, Emily ๐ Yes, what you say is true. The silence is what helps us understand the noise that comes later, and also helps us to write on the silence too. Very dependent duo, I think. Glad you liked the piece. Thank you. ๐

Ah .. these are the silences I fear most … an yet your closing lines shows a wonderful silver lining. Wonderful write powerful in its serenity. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Bastet. At times, we are so used to the sound that the silence does feel fearful. But it’s one that I love ๐ Glad you liked the write.

I loved ‘kissing the window, and the music, of my own thoughts’. The final verse is a beautiful flourish too.
Good to have come here, Leo.
Glad you loved those lines, and yes, the final verse is my favorite. ๐
Good to have you here too, Sakshi. ๐

Silence….ah, never thought I would actually miss this. But then parenting changed everything. Silence is a thing of the past nowadays for me. I disconnect only when I sleep…sometimes not even then ๐
(Sid recently posted… Father and Son)
LOL ๐ Yes, with Jr.Sid around, I can imagine that. In the evening, my neighbor baby comes to me too, and no way I can disconnect then ๐

I really miss the sound of the old typewriter… That first few lines gave me a bit of deja vu!
Yeah, the taps on the typewriter were so difficult if you didnโt give it the right force. I remember trying once on my auntโs typewriter. Dejavu, now that you mention it, Zoe ๐ Thanks!

It is in such moments that we find joy and bliss, the happiness of having found something which we always wanted but did not have, the ecstasy of knowing ourselves deep down.
