To listen…

Shared with OctPoWriMo Day 3 and UBC Day 3.

to hear is one thing,
to listen is another,
but most around me
seem to just hear;
take just a little,
and make it whole,
though in reality,
it is nowhere near.

Poetry & writing are to me, a breath of fresh air in a life that is sometimes covered by the smoke of sorrow or self doubt. They also become the sweets I share to celebrate when life offers me a reason to. But most of all, they are to me, my life. For each word I write is a piece of my heart, a thought that just had to find its way into the world.

  1. Well written.
    A few words explain everything.
    It happens all the time.
    We speak a paragraph.
    Listeners filter them to sentences.
And in the end, all they remember are a couple of words.
Liked the first 2 lines the most.
    “To hear is one thing.
    To listen is another”

  2. There is such a fine line between these two words “hear” and “listen.” You have brought it out so well. Wish we all listen more than just hear and take along the essence of the said words. 🙂

  3. Nice poem.
People are more self obsessed now-a-days.
Anyone with a pair of functioning ear could hear you, but listening requires your mental focus.
When you truly listen to what a person is saying, then you acknowledge that you value that person’s opinion.

    • Thank you, Priyanshi. 🙂

Yes, people are lost in their own thoughts so often, they don’t realize we are talking and what we say matters and it matters that we value them enough to tell them, and expect they’ll listen. Sad thing, that!
