Musical Moments

Music is something that I turn to often, be it Hindi melodies or Linkin Park’s nu metal or alternative rock. It calms my head when I’m in a moody phase, and I sing along if I’ve fallen in love with the lyrics. I knew that Bhavya also loved music, and one of her favorite songs was also one of my favorites. So for Day 4 of the Ultimate Blog Challenge in July, music was an obvious choice. We’re doing posts on the same theme each day (like A to Z in April).

Christmas vacations were in full swing. And both of them were enjoying themselves.

It was the first vacations they had after he had moved to a different school.

After a game of badminton, the siblings sat in their room, singing along to the lyrics of Kuch to Hua Hai, from the movie Kal Ho Na Ho, only recently released.

They loved music. They would try to call in to the TV shows to request their favorite songs. They had even succeeded once or twice, and they would sing along to Westlife or Backstreet Boys or ABBA when their choices were played on TV. They liked similar songs, so there wasn’t any chance of disappointment if only one of their calls got through.

They had loved the movie, especially the songs.

He began to sing the lyrics along with Alka Yagnik’s voice, only to be shushed by her.

“This is my part. Keep quiet.”

As he fell silent, there was a big smile on his face, in expectation of the revenge that would come soon.

They both loved the song too much to keep track whether it was Shaan or Alka’s part for long.

Author’s Note: Kal Ho Na Ho is a Hindi movie, and Kuch to Hua Hai is a song from that, sung by the artists Shaan and Alka Yagnik.

Poetry & writing are to me, a breath of fresh air in a life that is sometimes covered by the smoke of sorrow or self doubt. They also become the sweets I share to celebrate when life offers me a reason to. But most of all, they are to me, my life. For each word I write is a piece of my heart, a thought that just had to find its way into the world.
