A Life Story…

NaPoWriMo was first held in 2003. It is an annual project where participating poets write a poem each day of April. There are optional prompts given by the site for writing. You don’t need a blog for taking part. You just need to promise yourself that you will write a poem every day of April.

today I heard a story,
the story was my own;
it told me I had friends,
I’d thought I was alone.

it told me of love,
I didn’t think I deserve;
it showed me life is beautiful,
even at its worst.

it made me believe,
that I am not weak,
that I am a winner,
hopes aren’t bleak.

it helped me indeed,
let go of the past;
to count my blessings,
find freedom within.

I soared higher then,
than I had ever before;
it made me believe in,
what life had in store.

the future feels bright,
arriving a new dawn,
now I’m moving on,
with a new song.

The prompt at NaPoWriMo didn’t feel inspiring enough. In an impromptu thought, my co-NaPoWriMo poet Jaibala and I decided to try and write a poem together. The odd verses (1,3,5) are written by me. The even verses (2,4,6) are written by her.

(15th April 2014)

Poetry & writing are to me, a breath of fresh air in a life that is sometimes covered by the smoke of sorrow or self doubt. They also become the sweets I share to celebrate when life offers me a reason to. But most of all, they are to me, my life. For each word I write is a piece of my heart, a thought that just had to find its way into the world.
