some white cheese
on a black blanket,
waits for hungry souls
to eat, get refreshed
after a tiring journey.
but the time is ripe;
if it is not eaten soon,
it will slowly melt.
for in the tides of time,
a sky candle will be lit
and it shall tell us:
the time has now come,
to start all over again.
NaPoWriMo was first held in 2003. It is an annual project where participating poets write a poem each day of April.
The prompt at NaPoWriMo asks to write a poem with a Kenning in it. A Kenning replaces a word with a metaphorical phrase, like sun is taken as “sky candle”, ocean as “whale road” etc. They were initially developed in Nordic sagas.
