I, You… (and We?)

The Blogging from A to Z April Challenge was first held in 2010. The challenge is that we have to post every day of April, except on the four Sundays. April 1st is a theme with letter A, 2nd with letter B and so on till April 30th which will be Z themed. This year, I’m planning to do short pieces of fiction (not a series), or a poem based on a word with that letter.

“Why should I listen to you?”

I am the one who makes the money. I work my butt off for your comforts.”

“So what I do doesn’t matter? Is that what you are saying?”

“Not as much as what I do!”

“Are you daring me to prove that I matter?”

“How can you prove what I know is not true?”

And in the battle of “I”s and “You”s, a little voice saying “We” continued to cry, unheard.

To write 26 days in a month on a theme, a moral support is quite useful I feel. This year, I’m taking the challenge along with my friend Bhavya. We’re writing on the same themes each day, and giving each other the themes on alternate days. Day 9, the word chosen by Bhavya was I, around which this story was written.

(10th April 2014)

Poetry & writing are to me, a breath of fresh air in a life that is sometimes covered by the smoke of sorrow or self doubt. They also become the sweets I share to celebrate when life offers me a reason to. But most of all, they are to me, my life. For each word I write is a piece of my heart, a thought that just had to find its way into the world.

  1. When the I’s have respect for the you’s and leave their egos aside….The We wont have to cry….Have sadly seen this happen many times…and it it not one who can put in the effort it has to come from both….beautifully written to convey so much in so little words 🙂

    • I think the child’s voice is too feeble to be remembered in the time of shouting I-s and You-s at each other. Sad times, Sree. Glad you liked the take!

  2. Whoa 🙁 🙁 I is such a bad word except when we say “I LOVE YOU” or “I MISS YOU” to the beloved!!!! 😉

    Smile, it makes (y)our day!

  3. Clever and so true in so many homes.. its sad when ego comes in the way and when money seems to matter more than the “we” we so painstakingly build

    nicely done Leo
