Charms

NaPoWriMo was first held in 2003. It is an annual project where participating poets write a poem each day of April. There are optional prompts given by the site for writing. You don’t need a blog for taking part. You just need to promise yourself that you will write a poem every day of April.

water from another leaky tap
stickiest of mulberry sap
finest of spider web strands
a golden bugle from a band
sister’s old broken doll head
let my posts be properly read

The prompt at NaPoWriMo asks to write a Charm poem, a simple rhyming poem, in the style of a recipe-slash-nursery rhyme. It could be a charm against warts, or against traffic tickets. It could be a charm to bring love, or to bring free pizzas from your local radio station.

Poetry & writing to me are to me, a breath of fresh air in a life that is sometimes covered by the smoke of sorrow or self doubt. They also become the sweets I share to celebrate when life offers me a reason to. But most of all, they are to me, my life. For each word I write is a piece of my heart, a thought that just had to find its way into the world.
