Shehnaz’s Fix

Shehnaz was in a fix, as she looked at Amrit, who was standing next to her.

“Why sad, Naz? Don’t be sad. I’m here with you.”

She looked at him again, and then across the room to the table near the window.

“How do I tell her about you?”

Amrit smiled, and held her hand tightly.

“Won’t she like me?”

“There has been no one else before.”

He sighed, and left her to it as he arranged the tea set.

“Why? Why did I have to have another imaginary friend?”

Six year old Shehnaz wondered as she walked toward Alia.

(6th February 2014)

Poetry & writing are to me, a breath of fresh air in a life that is sometimes covered by the smoke of sorrow or self doubt. They also become the sweets I share to celebrate when life offers me a reason to. But most of all, they are to me, my life. For each word I write is a piece of my heart, a thought that just had to find its way into the world.
