Crossing life …

cross with life,
cross out the joys
knowingly;
if I had but a rupee
for all the times
I did that;
but then again –
if I did have a rupee
for all those times,
I might be tempted,
to be always
cross with life,
and knowingly
cross out all joys.

so I remain poor,
but rich with joys
that return to me
time and again,
through the smiles
of my friends,
who return a joy
I’d once given them
through a smile;
and in the moment
I realize happily,
that I cannot be
forever
cross with life.

Poetry & writing to me are to me, a breath of fresh air in a life that is sometimes covered by the smoke of sorrow or self doubt. They also become the sweets I share to celebrate when life offers me a reason to. But most of all, they are to me, my life. For each word I write is a piece of my heart, a thought that just had to find its way into the world.

  1. This is a really lovely poem, Leo. “so I remain poor but rich with joys” are special words that we all need to think about. Where would we be without family and friends,,,,
