winter garden…

this week’s sunday whirl brings across a very different set of words, challenging my muse to bring across something different. i tried to use all of the twelve words given, but one just didn’t amuse my muse i guess. these are two different takes on the same picture, also shared with one single impression and haiku heights, my meme.

this fallow garden lies unnoticed
waiting for right seeds to be sown
so its fertile soil can nourish at will
and bring to life a towering tree
where swallows can dance with joy
in its ballroom-like little hollows
they can store their collected crumbs
nap listening to lullaby of cycle bells
beyond it lies a pond, obsolete now
waiting for spring to be liberated
into a rambunctious roaring river
admired for its strength and tenacity
to flow over any obstacle in its way
on its banks, an abandoned barn
in its confines, an old automobile
a truck, soon to be labeled “vintage”
winter brings all life to a standstill
but even a frozen mind still dreams
of the time when it can be free again

Poetry & writing are to me, a breath of fresh air in a life that is sometimes covered by the smoke of sorrow or self doubt. They also become the sweets I share to celebrate when life offers me a reason to. But most of all, they are to me, my life. For each word I write is a piece of my heart, a thought that just had to find its way into the world.

  1. Beautiful poem Leo…:)I like the lines: "but even a frozen mind still dreams of the time when it can be free again"…it's only my muse which can make my mind be free again…and to be free means I can again write, and write and write!

  3. Oh, Leo, this is beautiful.  I was prepared to comment on the words that Amity quoted until I noticed she had already commented on them. Sigh.  So I will comment on something else:  all gardens (including a poet's mind?) wait for the right seeds to be sown!  I am seeing a lot of seeds sprouting this morning!

  5. Winter's landscape is gorgeous through your eyes, Leo.  I especially like the little hollow's with collected crumbs.  The images you've painted are vivid and lush…even in winter's stillness.

  11. Yes, it seems that the mind is frozen like a river in winter, but even that river does dream of flowing wild, Zongrik 🙂 Thanks & glad you liked it!

  13. Maybe both of your thoughts were different, Mary 🙂 You could have still commented if you wished, not a problem 😀  All minds are gardens waiting for seeds of thought, yes indeed. That was the way this poem was first worded too. Glad it still had enough of an essence to shine through here! Thank you for the lovely words! 🙂
