home is where my heart is
and with your heart is mine
as memories they beckon me
and my mind returns in time
to our silly fights and smiles
that came every passing day
when we ran to mum and dad
still bickering along the way
when we slept in the moonlight
that came through window pane
and grandpa read us fairy tales
and then read it all over again
to our childhood vacations
when we ran through the fields
breathing the wheat and rice
and admiring the harvest yield
to the last time I saw you
atthe airport with mum and dad
when I cried as I hugged you
I remembered the fun we’d had
now in this strange new world
each moment I wish I was home
for without dad, mum and you
I’m living each heartbeat alone

Poetry & writing are to me, a breath of fresh air in a life that is sometimes covered by the smoke of sorrow or self doubt. They also become the sweets I share to celebrate when life offers me a reason to. But most of all, they are to me, my life. For each word I write is a piece of my heart, a thought that just had to find its way into the world.

  1. This is beautiful, Leo! I can so relate to being away from family, and sweet memories of them. My family is scattered all over the U.S.; Washington, NC, Texas, U.S. Virgin Islands, oklahoma. I wish t weren't so! Very well written and wonderful sentiments!

  2. My family is all in this one place itself so far, Charles.. but it would be sad even to imagine going afar from them. I know I'll have to. Some day 🙂 Glad you liked it and found it well written. Thanks…

  3. This is breathtakingly beautiful, has all that a poetry shoud have, is all that a poetry should be. A heartfelt piece, etched in brilliant lines, that many people will be able to relate to. Your talent is remarkable.

  4. Leo, this is a lovely poem. I too lived  amid corn and fields much of my young life. I miss what my sister and I use to be. Once you grow up things change.Nice write.Melanie
