At The Pond… {Free Verse}

Beneath a tree he sat
Nursing his first cut
Try as his heart did
Tears couldn’t shut

He heard a new voice
From somewhere near
“We’ll cheer you up”
And a frog did appear

Curious he followed
The frog to the pond
Soon came another
From waters beyond

He watched amazed
As ducks two came
With turtles two too
They played a game

As they did pierce
His little heart close
He found his smile
In their happy dose

Beneath a tree he sat
With six friends anew
If he ever felt a tear
They’d cheer, he knew

Poetry & writing are to me, a breath of fresh air in a life that is sometimes covered by the smoke of sorrow or self doubt. They also become the sweets I share to celebrate when life offers me a reason to. But most of all, they are to me, my life. For each word I write is a piece of my heart, a thought that just had to find its way into the world.

  1. How beautifully you put the joy of growing up in and around nature. The delights of the birds and the frogs and the trees and streams are certainly the best cure for a little cut.

  2. Well done poem, for the children’s corner and makes a merry read!! The 3-words by themselves are hard but appear nicely in this poem!! 🙂
