Every day, I take help of someone for something and also, many take help of me for something. I have a wallpaper that reads, “A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle”, and yes, that holds good for me too. If I can share my light with another, then I’m not affected much. Nowadays, I’m not receiving much light, though others still continue to take mine in earnest. Hence this thought that sometimes nags me…
I share this post with Carry On Tuesday, with One Shot and also with Sensational Haiku Wednesday, where it is Poetβs Choice week. Accompanying image found from this source.
Life… if this candle
Burns at both ends; will my light
Die into darkness?
Β© Leo 04/July/2011
One word answer: Yes.
Yes, I thought it would be yes too, Jerry.
im speechless… the question you posed made me stop and think(i was eating a pastry actually π ) jokes apart, your words make me realize what i FEEL Leo. thats really incredible. thank you and once again AWESOME π
Yummy pastry, Kirti. I was hungry too. Thank you and glad you liked it.
Sharing is caring…
Someone is Special
Yes, but do the ones we share with care to share back when your light is dying, SiS?
Let’s hope our lights live on–at least through the others lights we’ve ignited. Good thought in verse.
Lee
Tossing It Out
Yes, let us hope for that, Lee.
beautiful thoughts.
be yourself, let it shine, stay confident, enjoy life.
π
Thanks Jingle.
Good Haiku!
My most recent ones (not Haiku, though) are here: http://jaanpehchaan.wordpress.com/
Thank you, Jaan Pehchaan. I’ll come by when I can.
burn brightly, set the whole world alight even if that means tomorrow we die…loved this sentiment
Yes, death is imminent after all. Still, it’d be sad if after all the light we’ve given out, the lights around us don’t try to reignite the spark in us. Thank you, MB Williams..
I dunno how much thought you gave to choose this depth…but it caught me on tip at the start!! Beautiful ….what a thoughtful question..suits the mood you are in now, I guess!
I don’t think too much before writing, Fiducia. It just sort of falls out you know? Glad you liked it.. and yes, in a little mood alright.
Quite like this…thought provoking.
Thanks, Martin.
Loved this.
Thanks, Dakshi.
Hoping that you get more light soon. I like your ideas expressed here, Leo!
I hope I find some light soon too, Mary.
Thanks for sending a little light my way with your words.
Thank you for your words, Nara Malone.
It will…
And yet the hope lingers.
Beautiful haiku, once again.
Thanks, Antara.
hmmm…and if it dies into darkness…is it truly gone? I like poems like this where more questions follow! π
Good question, Jeanne. I think it depends on if someone shares their light, or even gives us a candle to be reborn in.
Glad you liked the poem… Thank you so much.
There are givers and takers. For balance, everyone needs to be replenished and not just give away; but the takers have to wake-up and realize the detriment they are causing by always taking. Hope you find balance soon … if not, look for newer avenues and relationships for your best balance! Everyone deserves it.
Yes, that balance if there, might be my candle can stay lit for a little longer, Becca. Thank you. I’ll be on the look-out.
soon enough, yes…
Unfortunate that. I hope I find some light to live by then, Brian.
Looking from both ways, meaning energy is used up faster but it could also mean a sensational life while it lasted π
Thanks for sharing, Leo!
Thank you, Clariice. Glad you liked.
Oh very profound. I like it! :O)
Thank you, Madeleine.
Life dies into darkness regardless of which end of the candle you burn. But as another commenter said, it could mean a life wonderfully and magically lived.
True. Let the candle burn, and then we’ll see whether darkness shall fall or another candle will relight. π Thanks, Iva.
To share independent light with reciprocity, a challenge always, lovely piece ~ Rose
Yes. And a challenge I sometimes feel I’m failing at, Rose. But I’ll keep trying.
The wonderful and strange thing about light is that it never dies.. it may either pass on or just spread.. so shall yours, L.. π
If we believe that our light is utilized by someone in some way or the other, it is easier to believe the other half as well.. what say?
My light spreading.. sounds a fantastic idea, Kavita. π Yes, it is easier to believe that other half. But would it really be true is the question that pops after, I guess. Thanks!
Very powerful thought! I think that if you have a candle burning at both ends your light can never fade…..it can not die…..just connect and blend together!
π That is such a beautiful thought, Laura Lynn. Thanks so much. Glad you liked it.
What a question!!!
Thanks, Becca.
It’s been a while Leo….nice to see you and read your words again. Wonderful…and the image is perfect. I have missed your simple style full of depth and clarity,…
See you again soon
Annie
Yeah. Been a while π Glad you liked the simplicity in my write, Annie. See you soon. π
Don’t lose faith!!
Will try not to, RiA.
My candle burns at both ends. It will not last the night; But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends – It gives a lovely light.
~Edna St. Vincent Millay
Yes, I am aware of that poem, Khadeeja π Thanks.
Holy smokes, Leo – you nailed how I’m feeling lately! Providing light to everyone else, but not getting much of it in return.
Well done!
Thanks, Jenn. Glad you liked it. Hope you get some light soon π
There is always light at the end of a tunnel
Yes, but what about at the end of a candle, Whitesnake? π
Indeed a valid question. π
I am sometimes awed by your ability to emote so much with words… you got me thinking.
Glad it provoked from you, a thought, Deboshree π Thanks!
