I still remember my first assignment as a trainee reporter.
I got to interview a rancher, astride his trusty brown steed.
“How is life in the wild west?” I had asked him.
“Not so wild nowadays, son… “, he had replied, just as the shot was heard.
My first assignment had also been my last.

aaha! interesting.
@Paulami: Aaha! Thanks 😉
Crisp but yet captured the scene well within a dialogue. Have been seeing many of these types these last couple of weeks, and now yours has just inspired me to try something similar sometime soon! 🙂
@Clariice: You going to try a 55 fiction? 🙂 Awesome. Have fun. Glad you liked it and found the scene well captured!
Oh gosh ! that was unexpected !!
@Nimue: That’s what I wanted! 🙂 Cheers!
whew…never underestimate, life comes at you fast
@Brian: Yup. Faster than we want it to also!
Great 55!
@Mama Zen: Thanks!
beautiful,
a shot makes it a story,
Thanks for sharing.
🙂
@Jingle: Thanks! 🙂 Yep, a shot.. the clinching point.
I dig it. Very cool. I don’t know what exactly it is…maybe the tone but it is very good.
@Jesse: Thanks! Whatever it is, glad you found it cool! 🙂
You captured the essence of Short Story Slam ! A short story with a slamming end ! Well done !
@Mish: Haha..! I like this. Nice comment, thanks!

@Lulda: Thanks very much 🙂 Glad you liked it.
Is this what would be called a “ride-by”?
@MonkeyMan: Yes, I guess so 😀
Ah, I didn’t see that coming! Very good.
@BrownPaperBagGirl: Thanks! Glad the ending remained unexpected.
“Not so wild nowadays”
I LOVE this line.
And suddenly I got reminded of how when Barbossa said “The world used to be a bigger place”, Jack replied saying “World’s still the same. There’s just less in it”
@Antara, Another Sparrow fan I see 😀 Nice. Glad you loved the line! Thanks!
Excellent! The reporter heard the report and reported it!
@Charles: LOL 😀
Clever use of the prompt
@Andy: Glad you felt so!
That was a great shot! I am still stunned. Lovely one.
@Reena: Thanks! Glad you liked it. 🙂
Short but firm. 🙂
@Ina: Thank you. That was the intention 🙂
Wowsers! I can’t think of anything else but wowsers!
@A.B : Gee, Thanks! 🙂
Short and powerful
@Mindlovemisery: Thanks! 🙂
That was really good! Amazing how much you can say with so few words.
@Madeleine: Thanks! That’s one of the reasons why I like 55 fiction! 🙂
Loved the irony at the end. O Henry was my fav as he used irony in such a talented way in his short stories. You have the nack, Leo. Keep it up.
