Desire

Desire
.
It holds me close
Opens cauldron of past
Things I have not experienced
.
Till now
.
Yet I want it, yearn it so much
That my breath slows itself
In thoughts of lust
.
For them
.
Not romantic
This is love for a past
Reveries that never happened
.
Life sweet
.
Present, unravels before me
Tempting my senses deep
Tempts to open
.
Regret
.
A life not thought
Happiness others share
Tempt me to forget my silence
.
Regret
.
Things I wanted yet never got
Togetherness in smiles
Childhood moments
.
Regret
.
Moments so dear
Pangs of envy crawl in
For a minute, I lose myself
.
They win
.
I regret life, that what I missed
Yearn for a time machine
To return back
.
To past
.
To change events
That transpired against me
I forget moments that held me
.
So long
.
Then realization dawns in
Normalcy returns slow
I pray for love
.
For love
.
I admire life
Yearn for more light
To value a priceless present
.
Life sweet
.
Things left still to experience
Opens dreams of future
It still holds me
.
Desire

The form of poetry here is a cinquain. Cinquain is 5 line verse, with syllabic pattern of 2-4-6-8-2. I’ve used a succession of its subform Butterfly Cinquain and its reverse to write this poem. Butterfly Cinquain is a merging of cinquain and its reverse (2-8-6-4-2 syllabic pattern), the last line of the first cinquain is the first line of the second and so on…

Written as part of the April A to Z in 26 Days challenge, and 30 poems in 30 days, NaPoWriMo challenge.

Poetry & writing to me are to me, a breath of fresh air in a life that is sometimes covered by the smoke of sorrow or self doubt. They also become the sweets I share to celebrate when life offers me a reason to. But most of all, they are to me, my life. For each word I write is a piece of my heart, a thought that just had to find its way into the world.
