It was once written
Beginning of each new day
New lives would blossom
At sunrise, each ray to love
Nourish every bud
Rain to satisfy their thirst
Cleanse their wilting skin
Earth, a carpet for their feet
Strengthen from the roots
Man, to observe; give support
His hands to help grow
Meld the elements with care
Expected to show
Temperance in character
Avarice triumphed
Healing hands began to hurt
Ripped apart was life
Merciless slaughter, money
Glinted, showed power
Instinct was to live
Desire for more ended life
Desolate is Earth

Very interesting!
thanks, Tumblewords ๐
I love the poem here…the contrast is stark between life in all its fullness and beauty vs. a corrupt, greedy world. A stunning dichotomy here!
thanks very much, Writegirl ๐ yeah.. thats true what u say too.. glad u got what I wrote..
Desolate is earth when the desire for more trumps sympathy, pity, mercy and love.
Great poem.
yeah.. it is desolate in that way for sure, Fyodor..!
Powerfully written!
Thank u, Kelly ๐

Glad to see you share with potluck..

Glad to share, Jingle ๐
hmmm powerful stuff leo… i read in a book where “choose this day whom you shall serve”… there’s a lot of truth in them.. it is hard to imagine earth desolate… my hope is for a brighter day…
my hope is for the brightest day too, Ms. Pie ๐
Interesting use of contrast, tender to turmoil… well done.
yes.. it began well, ending to be decided, eh Reflections? ๐

I like the way the poem switches from hope to desolation; very clever, if a little sad. Great read.

Desolate is earth
good thing there still is poetry! Great poem.
yeah. good thing for sure, Ina ๐
So much truth in this poem. It takes the wisdom of age to realize it! Very well done!
I enjoyed the read!
yeah.. it doesn’t need age, Giggles ๐ it just needs observation and awareness… glad u enjoyed the read.
It’s hard not to think of “mankind” as a sort of oxymoron sometimes. Great write
yeah. its hard for me not to as well, Anthony…

“Instinct was to live
Desire for more ended life”
So true..beautifully written..
thanks, Rashmi ๐
It would seem that humanity took the gift of life and destroyed, or is destroying it because of creed. Human beings natural instincts seems to be suicidal. What a waste. Nice poem.
yeah, it does seem so, Amias ๐ what a waste indeed.
I am so glad to read this poem…
very powerful ๐
m glad u read it, Sumit ๐
Leo,

And that’s Life Leo…. every thing is created by God with nobel thoughts but Man ha, ha, plays with his thoughts.. as Earth moves from a state of elation to desolation and perhaps again to elation… hope helps me..
yeah.. overplay from man for sure, Rji.. sad that..!
Brrr … that post was chilling. Still, as a Lennonist, I will continue to imagine peace.
Warm regards.
yeah. likewise, Carlos ๐ though, not a Lennonist..
Wrong instincts indeed! What a fine tale you have woven and melded together- thank you!
thank u too, Patti ๐
Love the way you write it as folklore
What a great transition – tho sad
A one shot wonder
Moonie smiles
thanks, Moonie ๐ yeah, its not that great a transition either..
You chose the exact words to express Leo. Nice! ๐
thanks, Chamz ๐
We slide from hope to despair.
Leo, this is well done. I like it very much. Thank you!
yeah.. glad u liked it, Jamie.
Oh.. I love how the poem progressed! Ofcourse, I don’t like it when it the form of reality though! (sigh)
Instincts eventually leading to the great downfall… what a horrible defeat..isn’t it!??!
Very well written, L.. powerful and thought provoking!
oops.. I meant I donโt like it when it takes the form of reality though
But I am sure you had figured that out anyway.. ๐
chiasmic
thanks, deLiderata.
