The Elements

Purifying lives
But losing purity

Water maligned
Every sin in it
Washed in hope
Cleansing aura
As we try to
Get liberation

Life moves on
In each breath
We try to purify
Soul, soar again
Yet in life cycle
Air is maligned

Life giving earth
Given no respect
Becomes like a
Trash receptacle
Lacerated largely
All excuses lame

Yet fire purifies
Without losing
Its own lustrous
Labyrinthine way
Sacred rituals
Witnessed by it

Every element is
Life loving, yet
Three do lament
Longing for life
Like fire, for
It leads all life

Purifying lives
Still being pure

Poetry & writing are to me, a breath of fresh air in a life that is sometimes covered by the smoke of sorrow or self doubt. They also become the sweets I share to celebrate when life offers me a reason to. But most of all, they are to me, my life. For each word I write is a piece of my heart, a thought that just had to find its way into the world.

    lovely one Leo ๐Ÿ˜€
    i was hoping you would write L =leo :p
    heeheehehe ๐Ÿ˜€
and i loved the way you dedicated every para to an element ๐Ÿ™‚
    awesome work ๐Ÿ˜€

  2. Leo – Love the way you dealt with the elements.
There is a sense of purifying and the conflict against that purification, longing and striving for the answers.

    nicely written cycle
Glad you shared with One Stop

  3. Interesting meditation on the elements. Fire is a great purifier, consuming without being consumed.

BTW, an archaic meaning for “try”, the OSI prompt for this week, is to melt down in order to separate out impurities, to render some thing to its essence. Thought this was an interesting synchronicity, adding yet another dimension to the piece!

    • thanks a lot, Gabrielle ๐Ÿ˜€ yes, fire is indeed a purifier..! to be honest, I’d not much idea of that archaic meaning till you mentioned it.. but glad it worked out in favour of the poem, adding another dimension to it ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. the idea interested me Leo, and as always you treat your words so well..i enjoyed every line and elements have always been an intriguing topic for, i enjoyed that read ..BRAVO! :)))

    • thanks very much, Desert Rose, and yeah, it has been intriguing for me too.. indeed it is a challenge to write on them ๐Ÿ™‚
glad you loved how I’ve treated the subject..! good to see you here, from One Shot, as always ๐Ÿ˜€

  5. Using the characteristics of the Five elements ( Air Water Earth Fire and Sky)

you have weaved this beautiful poem around it.

It well describes its significance which is so important to us .

    Great work!!

  6. Philosophical… the basic 5 elements from our environment in nature required for our existence. Good energy generating poem from you.:)

  7. Lemme see if I got this straight… you wrote this for One Single Impression, Monday Poetry Potluck, ABC Wednesday, One Shot Wednesday AND Writerโ€™s Island? FIVE in one post? That’s gotta be a new record or something!

(Of course, it’s a bit of a stretch to use for both Monday AND Wednesday, but I certainly can’t fault your multi-tasking!)

    • thats right, Eric ๐Ÿ˜€ u got that straight ๐Ÿ˜‰ and no, don’t think its a new record, though I donno if such a record book exists right now ๐Ÿ™‚

glad you liked the multitasking ๐Ÿ˜‰

  8. this is a great poem, and full of truth.
i especially like the use of “labyrinthine”…
    and yes, fire…

  9. Another beautiful poem…you have certainly woven stunning metaphors and images here. You’ve done a nice job of combining various prompts. Nicely done!

  10. Very intuned with this week’s theme.. beautifully done.. Fire always invokes that primitive raw passion in me..

Very substantial to read.. ๐Ÿ˜€ xox
