Ah! Summer!

Ah, its summer now
Temporary break to
Questions & answers
As demure children
Swarm the beach now
Away from uniforms
Of skirts and shorts
And suffocating ties

Half-eaten apples lie
Forgotten in picnics
As the little time of
Freedom spent now
Exercising backbones
Before the mind goes
To chanting of lessons
And embellished hues
Of little adventures

Thoughts are swift
But it’s only the heat
That offends minds
A year long journey
Ends; as we dock in
Heated sojourns to
Ease the debris of
Overheated minds
Leaving no evidence
Of volatile thoughts

Ah, its summer now!

Poetry & writing are to me, a breath of fresh air in a life that is sometimes covered by the smoke of sorrow or self doubt. They also become the sweets I share to celebrate when life offers me a reason to. But most of all, they are to me, my life. For each word I write is a piece of my heart, a thought that just had to find its way into the world.

  1. I would like to believe it’s the onset of summer now in your place… πŸ™‚ but in our place, moonsoon starts to set in… πŸ™‚ however, the weather is still hot…!

You’ve pictured so well how kids would enjoy the summer, sans notebooks, uniforms and torture of mind from questions and answers in school classes!

All of us once had those joys when we were yet in school and we kinda missed those days! Though it is summer now, except from holidays and office outings, we remain boxed inside the four walls of our office! Whew…if only we could also enjoy like those kids! πŸ™‚ πŸ˜‰

    • nah.. we’re in midst of monsoon and headed toward fall.. but weather is still hot here too πŸ™‚
glad u liked the poem, Amity, and yep, I know that summer feeling so well..!

  2. Isn’t summer great? It is wonderful time to enjoy those few months of relaxation, before the 9 months of school hits. Thanks for the great memories of why we treasure those vacation times with our families.

  3. Who can resist the sea on a hot summer’s day!?! The heat in summer is truly killing and tempers are volatile too. Only the sea can calm it down. πŸ™‚

  4. Your poem is a beautiful dream of a summer that (almost) never was, hereabouts. We spent most of it apologising to tourists for the way August ruined their few days of leisure.
