Bob, get up now,
Annie did shout;
I’ll call the Father,
Make no doubts.

In an instant,
Out of bed he was,
Hitting his knee,
On the bedpost, alas!

Sandy, my pen,
Where did you keep?
Tell me sweetie,
Don’t make me weep.

He got his books,
Kissed them bye,
Hitting the door top,
Which wasn’t high.

Some time later,
He saw Lily ahead,
His classmate smiled,
He did cry instead.

Lily dearest, help me,
My homework I forgot,
Let me copy yours,
Let Father know not.

Sweet as she was,
To help she did agree,
In the park they sat,
While he soon copied.

He still got a hiding,
From the priest for it,
“Miner Bob you copied.
Your homework shows it.

I’ll complain to Annie,
I’ll tell Sandy on you,
You don’t have brains,
You copied her name too.

I tell you B for Baby,
And you ask me where!
You tell two times two is 22,
You make me pull my hair!

You’re 30 years old now,
Can’t you do your own work?
Education is responsibility,
You just cannot shirk.

Now stop being a sloth,
Write this paper 100 times,
That’s your punishment,
Now start and don’t whine.”

Bob the Miner, he’s no fool,
He’s doing his best to finish school.
Yet how he will I don’t know,
I tell A for Apple, he eats his so.

Take the stick, give a whack,
Yet he don’t learn, still slacks.
The oil is there, unlit the wick,
Guess an old dog, can’t learn new tricks.

Poetry & writing are to me, a breath of fresh air in a life that is sometimes covered by the smoke of sorrow or self doubt. They also become the sweets I share to celebrate when life offers me a reason to. But most of all, they are to me, my life. For each word I write is a piece of my heart, a thought that just had to find its way into the world.

  1. This is the most original and humorous take on Adult Education. Kept me in splits and I liked the simplicity of Miner Bob.Surely he'll pass this test!!And be a darling to all in BPL!! 😉

  2. An interesting poem which left me to want some more of it…:)And you made me smile a lot, really! If this is a contest entry, I wish you the best of luck as I am sure you would always have an edge with all other participants as you always did, like for BATOM!I look forward to a second series of this Indiana Raiders poem of yours…Leo…Leonnynes???Quite interesting! Where did your thoughts come from? It's unique and very entertaining, hence my wanting for a second series!!! :)Again, all the Best of Luck!!!

  3. Amazing post. Leo. I could not even imagine this topic could be approached as a poem. Too good – poetry and humor within confines of such a narrow topic.

  4. @Amity,that was the intention.. to make readers smile! :Dyes, its a contest, but it has judges.. not readers votes like BAT. :)Leonnyes is my team's nickname for me. Second series? sure. will think about it! 😀 Thoughts came from my teammate Luluclux.. i executed it! 😀

  5. @The Fool, thank u! coming from a critic such as yourself, i find that high praise! 🙂 glad u liked it & all the best to you too! 🙂

  6. Awesome post, Leo!!! Loved it 🙂 Racy, humourous, and to the point!! Also, this is a different take on the topic, which earns you EXTRA brownie points 🙂
