The sunset was serene, yet dark streaks of black marred the tangerine sky.
I sat on the beach, alone, watching the waves drift in and out. Just like my dreams…
The wind blew cool, bringing calmness. I wrote my heart on the sand. The tide washed it away. Just like my dreams…
I made a castle. The wind blew strong. It collapsed. Just like my dreams…
Frustration took over. I made to get up from the place. That was when I saw it. The old ship silently drifting away from the new fleet. It still held its own.

“Why couldn’t my dreams be like that?” I wondered.
I sat back down. The waves touched my feet, made their presence felt. Just like my dreams…
I dug a deep trench. I wrote my dreams behind it. The tide came, but the trench held. Just like my dreams.
I built the castle like the fort. The wind tried its strongest. Yet the fort held. Just like my dreams…
“It’s not where I am that is important, it’s how I think”, I said to myself. “I’ll be ready for a tsunami also now.”
As I walked off, I met a sailor. “Ahoy! What be the name of the old ship I just saw? The one with the strong brown sails, sailing away from the others…” It had helped give me hope.
“Veilleuse – Guardian of the Night”, he said, “Lad, she sunk into the Atlantic a thousand years ago.”

A wonderful write Leo, I could visualised sat there. It really is a pleasure to read your work.Yvonne.
This is probably one of your best posts. The serenity, the calmness and the tranquility in this post engulfs you and keeps the reader ensnared. The comparisons made with dreams is very beautifully done. You can actually hear the sounds of the sea, the waves and the wind. The solitude in Veilleuse is captivating. In one word – MIND BLOWING!!! 😀
