Half a score and two years ago,
A damsel I met in the dry rain;
Alluring eyes wet with tears,
Yet with raindrops they mingled,
Silently sliding down her cheek,
Not a sound revealing her fear.

Pretty stranger, standing alone,
I know not what called me to her,
Reach for her hand and say,
“Little lady, why so miserable?
Come in from this raging rain,
Let’s have some tea in the cafe.”

She refused at first, shied away,
Afraid of my hand, not known,
Shook her gold locks and told,
“I’m alone and cheated of trust,
All hands seem friendly no more,
Betrayed; worthless, fool’s gold.”

She walked off, eyes still teary,
No one to console in her misery,
No trustworthy hand then in hers;
I know not why, my feet followed,
I read her silence, heard her shout,
“Is my life a blessing or a curse?”

She turned, she saw me nearby,
“Go away, I mean nothing to you,
Don’t ruin your life by my side.”
Yet at that moment, I felt not so,
Heartbeat quick, anxiety nearby,
Was this true or had heart lied?

“I know I know not who you are,
Where you did come from today,
Why destiny crossed our path now;
Yet I do feel, we were meant to be,
Heart hasn’t lied; I’ve felt this before,
With you now, I have fallen in love.”

She stared at me, “Is he insane?”
Her thoughts just drifted across,
Yet when I approached, she stayed;
“My heart beats, they say the same,
No one has cared for them before,
I do pray your trust is not mislaid.”

Love at first sight, was it so simple?
We stood together in that dry rain,
Talked like forever we had known;
As the world watched, lips did lock,
Love had conquered, strangers two,
Lonely hearts both, yet never alone.

Memories never part, not like this,
No hesitation, next day we married,
Said our vows to Him, became one;
Twelve years to this day, it has been,
Lot of small fights, shared smiles too,
We’re still together under the sun.

Love still holds us close, holds true,
An angel in our life, to cherish forever,
No misunderstandings slay our smile;
Strangers when we met, unsure in life,
Love brought together, granted wish,
Love shall keep us one, all the while.

Poetry & writing are to me, a breath of fresh air in a life that is sometimes covered by the smoke of sorrow or self doubt. They also become the sweets I share to celebrate when life offers me a reason to. But most of all, they are to me, my life. For each word I write is a piece of my heart, a thought that just had to find its way into the world.
