New Dawn

Night fell upon me, and I fell silent like every other night. It was these hours between sunset and first rays of sunrise that I hated the most. I lived on one side of the stone wall that separated me from a thousand on the other side.
Each day, I faced many problems. The merciless winds of change would try and force me off my feet. The sun would try and make me wither in fear. Yet my life went on, protected by the wall from all problems.
Whispers, I heard when the calming breeze passed by, about how beautiful the world was on the other side. I heard what successes awaited me if I just had the will to dance with the breeze and sail past the wall. I began to yearn for an escape from the wall that had protected me so long.
Desire became temptation, and I decided to let go of the fear I had inside my heart. When the calming breeze called again, I would let go of the ground and go past the wall. I waited patiently for that moment.
As the first rays of sunlight touched the ground, I heard the breeze as it calmly touched the tops of the trees. I sat on the wall, feet ready to touch the other side. The light began to slowly come, and I saw a world where I could be myself and still win. I jumped, and the breeze applauded as I broke free of the wall.
Why had I hesitated before?” I wondered. “You were comfortable in the care and protection on the side of the wall. Yet being in this one place, the chances of your beauty being found dwindled. All that was needed, was some desire to dance with the wind than cower against it”, whispered the breeze.
Now my steps in the new world were small, but I had the confidence to make it to bigger, successful steps soon. I regained what I’d forgotten… a thirst for better things and a heart that was willing to take risks.

Short Story MeMe

Poetry & writing to me are to me, a breath of fresh air in a life that is sometimes covered by the smoke of sorrow or self doubt. They also become the sweets I share to celebrate when life offers me a reason to. But most of all, they are to me, my life. For each word I write is a piece of my heart, a thought that just had to find its way into the world.
