Behind A Mask

From behind a mask
She did attack with venom
Spitting with fury at me
Threatening to expose
Some things in my past
So that all the world can see

From behind a mask
Her eyes showed the rage
But I could only see fear
For only a coward attacks
Not showing the face so
Even when claiming to be near

From behind a mask
Her words came with malice
Refusing to let me be in peace
Hitting every loved one I have
Tainting my soul ever so little
Bringing me once to my knees

From behind a mask
She continues to speak now
Of the past not letting go
The past has some meaning
I have learnt from the mistakes
That I might have made long ago

From behind a mask
Let her continue to attack me
I’ll not mind if she is even right
My present overshadows the past
Love I have now will lead me on
I now have the courage to fight

Poetry & writing are to me, a breath of fresh air in a life that is sometimes covered by the smoke of sorrow or self doubt. They also become the sweets I share to celebrate when life offers me a reason to. But most of all, they are to me, my life. For each word I write is a piece of my heart, a thought that just had to find its way into the world.
