Well, I am a little busy for blogging a new poem… and had 2 tags pending. But Winnie has managed to go over those two tags and tempted me to do this one. I think she knew I’d take it up because she knows my love for books. Well, she never really tagged me…she taking revenge because I hadn’t tagged her for the Songs of my Life tag I think!! 😉 …but it is an open tag. Rules are simple. Answer the questions and pass them on to somebody else to do.

How It All Started…
Do you remember how you developed a love for reading?
Sure I do. This question makes me long for the good old days. School I mean. They were the best days of my life frankly speaking. Once a week visit to the library which was stocked full of books… I think ‘Aesop’s fables’ was the first book I was able to get my hands on. But still, it was the one that got me started and through school days, I changed my preferences from kid’s stories to mysteries like Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys & then to the Harry Potter series. But even now, I do nurse a soft spot for Enid Blyton’s books.

Memorable Books in the Bookworm’s corner…
What are some books you read as a child?
Again, there were a lot. Aesop’s started it. But from 6th grade till 9th grade, the mysteries had me hooked. Enid with the Secret Seven, Famous Five, Mystery Series and Carolyn Keene with Nancy Drew and Franklin Dixon with Hardy Boys… they were my most read books. Many other mysteries also enticed me, but not as much as these.

Best of the Best…
What are your favorite books?
Harry Potter- all novels… they are my favorite. Others are also there but they don’t really count as favorites. JK Rowling has held top spot in my favorites list since 7 years nearly.

Are there really a time and a place to read??
When & Where do you usually read?
Anytime, anywhere… it could be on my bed or study table… in my college bus or during class hours pretending it is a text book (my teacher never comes off the dais much so it is great!!)… in the park or on my terrace… under a streetlight or under a bed-sheet with a torch… well, you get the drift…you give me a novel and I can while away the time no problem!!

Quantity or Quality…
Do you usually have more than one book you are reading at a time?
I take two or three at a time from the library but read only one at a time. In the event that I don’t find the story interesting, I stop in the middle of one book and switch to the next but usually I don’t take books I feel will be boring… my intuition has always been good with books(novels to be more specific..)

Shopper or not…
Do you buy most of the books you read, or borrow them, or check them out of the library?
I buy very few these days… usually I check them out of the library or borrow them from my friends. Or else I read the books I already have in my closet, on
ce again.

Do you keep most of the books you buy? If not, what do you do with them?
If I buy them I keep them. If I don’t read them, mostly Anu does.(for the info of new readers here, Anu is my younger sister). So it does not go to waste. If both of us find the book boring (another rarity this!!) we give it to the library. After all, different people have different tastes. What is old milk to us, maybe like old wine to them…right?

Sharing with the next generation…
If you have children, what are some of the favorite books you have shared with them? Were they some of the same ones you read as a child?
Umm… me single right now… but I can tell that what books my parents used to like are not what I would read. That goes to say that one day in the future, maybe my children may feel the same way too… there are many brilliant new authors making an appearance on the stage these days and many more to come in the future…(With some luck, I may be one of them!! ;))

Current Affairs…!!
What are you reading now?
The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini… I am actually re-reading it for the seventh time in as many days. I am a fast reader, and after I read it once, I felt like reading it again…and now, I don’t know if I’ll ever return the book back to the library.

Do you keep a TBR (to be read) list?
No. I am random in my tastes. My intuition tells me which book to pick, and I just follow my intuition.

Tastes that stick… and tempt me to try again…!!
What books would you like to reread?
Many are there. I can’t name all the books in my closet. I’d try but I am in the middle of examinations and well, I don’t have that much time on my hands…

Seriously dumb question…(at least it was for me!!!)
Who are your favorite authors?
Needle in a haystack folks… I’ve a hundred of them and to pick a favorite ain’t easy. JK Rowling stands out from the list but I can’t pick a favorite from the remaining. They are all awesome…!!

To give this to another…!!
I tag: – like Winnie, even I’ll make this an open tag. Pondering as to who might take it up…if I know my blog friends I think I can be sure, Sid will take it up. He’s a bookworm and well, I needn’t say more… maybe Sami but she’s got 3 tags pending (if I remember her comments, that’s what she said)… Divya perhaps but can’t be sure… well, I’ll wait and find out…!!

Happy Reminiscing Folks!!!

Poetry & writing are to me, a breath of fresh air in a life that is sometimes covered by the smoke of sorrow or self doubt. They also become the sweets I share to celebrate when life offers me a reason to. But most of all, they are to me, my life. For each word I write is a piece of my heart, a thought that just had to find its way into the world.
