Evergreen Moments

On the grassy slope
Of a hill I lay
The ocean calm nearby
The reddish glow
Of the setting sun
Lit the fiery sky

Small footsteps I saw
In the damp sand
A child’s joy I felt
Memories of childhood
Drifted back to me
As upon the sand I knelt

Castles I built
Messages I wrote
That the tide had washed away
A dewdrop slid
Down my cheek
As I remembered that day

A hand I felt
On my shoulder
I looked up to see
No one was there
But smiling back at me
A distant memory

Poetry & writing to me are to me, a breath of fresh air in a life that is sometimes covered by the smoke of sorrow or self doubt. They also become the sweets I share to celebrate when life offers me a reason to. But most of all, they are to me, my life. For each word I write is a piece of my heart, a thought that just had to find its way into the world.
