Family Ties

The light coming through the window
Touched my eyes as i opened them
I saw the first glimpse of my life.
Saw a room full of faces
Smiling, looking down at me
I returned their smiles with one of mine.

They were people to me yet unknown
But the affection was their on their faces
As tears came to a lady who held me.
I smiled more nicely so as to console her
But this made her cry some more
So I cried aloud to see her smile at me.

I soon went away from that room
With those nice people who had cared for me
To a new place I know not where.
It was big and pretty with lots of rooms
And more people with happy smiles
I could tell they were delighted to see me there.

Here in this place with many nice people
Which I now knew was called my home
Smiling and crying I happily spent the day.
With that nice lady who I now knew was my mom
And another gentleman I know as my dad
These two words now I was trying to say.

I soon did tell those words
Both mom and dad this time cried
I saw their tears and cried.
They were my favorite people
They could always make me smile
So I said those nice words with pride.

They taught me to crawl, and then to walk
They were always there to hold my hand
To make me happy always and never sad.
To this day they are there with me
They are my life and much much more
I love you my sweet mom and dad.

Poetry & writing to me are to me, a breath of fresh air in a life that is sometimes covered by the smoke of sorrow or self doubt. They also become the sweets I share to celebrate when life offers me a reason to. But most of all, they are to me, my life. For each word I write is a piece of my heart, a thought that just had to find its way into the world.
